I've done this with several of my previous boyfriend. Although every time I've done it I was the dom with them tied up.

A couple of things to keep in mind before you get started...

You say you've already done some light bondage, so some of this you may have already known, but I'm including it just in case.

First, talk to each other about what your objectives are. The two of you have obviously decided to do something kinky, so merely talking about it shouldn't embarrass you. Feel free to express your desires, likes, and dislikes. Decide if you just want Bondage & Discipline (tying one person up and the other just having their way with them) or if you also want Sadism & Masochism (the willful infliction of pain). I've never touched S&M (apart from a little bit of spanking) and don't really know too much about it (nor do I care to find out).

Tell your partner what you want to get out of it. Listen to your partner and pay attention to what they want to get out of it.

Second, make sure you've established a safe word. Something that she can say at any time to indicate that things are going too far for her. Something that's not normally mentioned during sessions. I've used the word Shampoo. But the two of you can come up with your own. While you're new to this, you might want to have a second codeword that merely means, 'don't do that'. This way the sub is able to beg and plead for the dom to stop as part of role playing, and the dom knows that despite hearing the subs pleas they don't really have to stop (and shouldn't). I would very much recommend against a ball gag (or any other kind of gag) until the two of you are much more experience and know better what each other's limits are, just because you can't say the safe word if you've got a ball gag in your mouth.

Third, whomever is going to be the one tied up need to make sure to go to the bathroom ahead of time. It can be disruptive if you need to stop, untie, do a quick errand, then retie, start up all over again. Unless you decide ahead of time that it's okay to pee on yourselves (if you're into that kind of stuff).

Fourth, get flat nylon tube webbing. Using chains can end up biting into the skin whereas tubing more comfortable (unless discomfort really is your objective - S&M stuff here). It's available from most boating stores and mountain/rock climbing stores. Don't tie it too tight or you could cut off circulation (you should be able to stick your finger in there without too much difficulty). Learn to tie a bowline knot. It's secure yet still allows for quick release in case of danger.

Next is a little more cerebral and applies if the submissive is wanting to be submissive (as opposed to being submissive to satisfy the fantasies of their partner). If they're wanting to be submissive, their pleasure is a secondary pleasure. By that I mean the pleasure and enjoyment of the dom is the source of the sub's pleasure.

For instance, when I've got a guy tied up, I take the attitude that I'm only going to be doing those things that *I* want to do. I don't care if he enjoys it or not. He is only there to facilitate and provide for my pleasure. Because they are *wanting* to submit, they actually enjoy that more. Besides, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense for someone to submit themselves only to end up getting primary pleasure from it. Whomever the dom is needs to be a little bit selfish. Again, this is only if the sub is *wanting* to be submissive. If they're merely volunteering to be submissive so that their partner can have some fun, then you'd be kind of an azz to not be considerate of the sub's primary pleasures. When they're volunteering to be sub, they don't really get that much pleasure just from the dom's pleasure. Again, talk about this ahead of time.

Another thing I'd suggest is search around on the web for some bondage videos. A bunch of them are pay for, but if you look around some message boards and such, you can probably find some free videos. You might be able to get some ideas from them.

And I'll repeat this, really really really talk to each other about what you want and what you don't want. And talk again after wards to discuss what was fun and what wasn't. If parts of it turn out to not be fun, then that kind of defeats the whole purpose of what you're doing.

If you plan to use something like locks or cuffs, you can freeze the keys in ice, giving you time until the ice melts. I would highly recommend using a friend for a back-up though. This person doesn't need to know the details of what you're doing, but it would be wise for someone to come by, say an hour or two after you anticipate finishing, in case something happens and you can't release yourself. Once freed, you can always call that friend later and tell them not to bother coming by for whatever reason you use. I've done a few things, but I don't recommend taking unnecessary risks.
